DFN is proud to congratulate Innisfail Alliance Church on having attained their fundraising goal and succeeded in financing the construction of a Good Shepherd School!!!

Teachers' Day

The students were very excited to have their picture taken with their favourite teacher

The Good Shepherd School students and their parents recently held a ceremony to celebrate Teachers' Day. Two parents organized a collection in order to purchase small gifts for the teachers. The students were then able to honour their instructors by presenting them with pens. Everyone at the ceremony also enjoyed some sweets.

To give the teachers a well-deserved break, the eager class 1 students became teachers on the day of the celebration! Half the class taught the younger students English, while the other group led math lessons. The students had a lot of fun. 

We at DFN know that without the tireless efforts of the teachers at each of our Good Shepherd Schools, this freedom movement would not be possible. We join the students and parents in West Bengal in their appreciation and celebration of the Good Shepherd School teachers!

Students Get Creative!

As of this academic year, the Good Shepherd School has students in lower kindergarten, upper kindergarten, and class 1. There are 30 students in total. In addition to their academic studies, the students have many opportunities to get creative and have fun. The school recently started offering dance classes every Saturday for thirty minutes, where the teachers instruct the children in basic dance steps. Other students are learning guitar as well. The children also love drawing.  

Many of these children are the first members of their family ever to receive a high-quality, English education. The opportunity to attend school makes a huge difference in these Dalit children's lives, freeing them from a life of poverty and exploitation to one of hope and dignity.
